About Us

HALLGARTH FARM

Hallgarth Farm is a working sheep farm situated at the end of a country lane on the edge of the village of Peopleton.  In a slightly elevated position it boasts uninterrupted views to the Malvern Hills, Bredon  Hill and Broadway Tower.

Owned and run by the Tarran family for many years, the farm was purchased by the current owners’ Grandfather in the early 1930’s.  Originally it was a traditional “mixed farm”, rearing beef, sheep and pigs and growing a number of arable crops including wheat, barley and oats.  The growing of top fruit was also a major enterprise but as lifestyles changed it became increasingly unprofitable and now there is little left to see of the traditional orchards.

Back in the 1950’s and 60’s the farm produced hundreds of gallons of cider.  Using homegrown apples and pears the fruit was pressed on farm and the juice fermented in whisky barrels before being supplied as local “scrumpy” to many pubs in and around Pershore.  The original cider press is still in working order but is probably more suited to a museum now rather than being regarded as “state of the art” which is what it would have been in it’s heyday.

Farming is hard work and there has to be a willingness to respond to changing markets.  Our own farm has changed significantly over the years and will need to continue to evolve to ensure its survival for future generations.  The creation of Hallgarth Farm Holiday Lodge is our latest venture and we look forward to welcoming visitors to share our heritage.
